Frequently Asked Orthodontic Questions

When should my child be seen by an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children be seen around the age of seven.
When does orthodontic treatment need to start?
This depends on how your child's teeth and jaws are developing. Certain bite problems can be managed more effectively if treated at an early age. For example a cross-bite of one or more teeth can cause the jaws to grow incorrectly as well as potentially wear away permanent tooth structure. In light of those reality's orthodontists generally consider correcting cross-bites sooner rather than later. Other bite issues are more efficiently treated when all of the permanent teeth have erupted. At Ballard Orthodontics, Dr. Ballard strives to effectively communicate what if any problems he notices with your bite or your son or daughters bite and develop a customized plan that all are comfortable with.
Do I need a referral from my dentist in order to make an appointment with your office?
No, it is not necessary. About half of the patients seen at Ballard Orthodontics have been referred from their dentist and the other half have simply taken it upon themselves to schedule an appointment.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
This really depends on how extensive the orthodontic treatment will be. Dr. Ballard and staff generally make you aware of the costs at the end of the initial visit.
Will your office take my insurance?
Certainly. It is important to know that there are quite a variety of insurance companies and plans. Once the financial coordinators have your specific insurance information they are better able to inform you as to how much of you or your child's treatment will be covered. Additionally, they will file your insurance claims for your convenience.
